We've had a very tense past few weeks. My little dog, Pip, fell severely ill with a still undiagnosed problem. He's finally on the mend, but it was a long road with much driving, consulting with 4 different vets, ultrasounds, ECGs, X-Rays, blood transfusions & a 50-50 shot at recovery.

The consensus seems to be that he either had a reaction to Glycoflex causing him internal bleeding or IMHA (an auto-immune disease where the blood cells attack themselves). He was severely anemic & on deaths door when he arrived at the Norwalk Animal Hospital (the only area emergency facility with the diagnostic equipment available for the testing he required). I drove down to see him the week he was at the hospital each day. I figured that he'd have a better chance of recovery if he knew he wasn't alone & I reassured him he'd pull through.

Miracle's happen & he did recover - he seems his old self these past few days. We're still monitoring him closely, fearing that what originally came on so quickly could happen again.

Medical care is scarry expensive. I could have bought my step daughter a modestly priced pre-owned car for the total balance due for Pip's care. Friends don't understand, but I know all of you will, because you're 'animal people' -- and only our ilk can comprehend going to the ends of the Earth for our 'babies'. :D

We've received many emails inquiring about the 2008 Best Of Poll... Many of you had difficulty attempting to vote. Apparently we were a hair too late in sending out our 'call for help' & the polls closed (with out warning!). I don't know if we were able to log enough votes, but I'll let you all know when the New Haven Advocate prints the result in the May 17th edition!

Thank you to all those who tried... we'll get them next year!

We're home from Aruba & back to work. We had a good time, but it's good to be home! I was sick for the 1st 2 days from a poor food choice at the hotel buffet. After that things went much better! (no place to go but up after that!!!).

Above picture was a daily occurance (we named him Chompy, as he mistook my step daughters finger for one of the crackers we were feeding him). He would come when called in the afternoons just like one of our cats! (I can't stop feeding animals...even on vacation!!)

We're still taking reservations for February & April school vacations. Call early to get the suite of your choice. Mandy did a very good job in our stead, but it's good to be back & to see all my little kitty friends again!

1991-2007 - Quackery

V. Sad news - on 11/25/2007 I lost my best (furry) friend, Quackery. He was 16 years old & suffering from chronic kidney disease. He was, however, doing very well & his quick decline (1 hour) was a huge surprise (he had a mass that was undetected & it bled out).

Quackery slept with me every night, on the pillow by my head, always to my right. I slept with him longer than my spouse. He was with me for nearly 1/2 of my adult life.

Life has been difficult without him & I can't even talk about it with anyone without bursting into tears (so I just don't talk about it, I hate to cry in front of anyone). I suppose with time it will be better, but for now there's an intense pain in my heart when I find myself missing him. I have 3 other cats that I love & keep me company - but Quack was my favorite & the oldest & he will not easily fade from my memory.
