We've had a very tense past few weeks. My little dog, Pip, fell severely ill with a still undiagnosed problem. He's finally on the mend, but it was a long road with much driving, consulting with 4 different vets, ultrasounds, ECGs, X-Rays, blood transfusions & a 50-50 shot at recovery.
The consensus seems to be that he either had a reaction to Glycoflex causing him internal bleeding or IMHA (an auto-immune disease where the blood cells attack themselves). He was severely anemic & on deaths door when he arrived at the Norwalk Animal Hospital (the only area emergency facility with the diagnostic equipment available for the testing he required). I drove down to see him the week he was at the hospital each day. I figured that he'd have a better chance of recovery if he knew he wasn't alone & I reassured him he'd pull through.
Miracle's happen & he did recover - he seems his old self these past few days. We're still monitoring him closely, fearing that what originally came on so quickly could happen again.
Medical care is scarry expensive. I could have bought my step daughter a modestly priced pre-owned car for the total balance due for Pip's care. Friends don't understand, but I know all of you will, because you're 'animal people' -- and only our ilk can comprehend going to the ends of the Earth for our 'babies'. :D
